{"id":154,"date":"2026-03-03T12:18:50","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T12:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/periodstudies.univie.ac.at\/?p=154"},"modified":"2026-04-08T12:24:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T12:24:11","slug":"published-lisa-tenderini-oltre-i-tabu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/periodstudies.univie.ac.at\/?p=154","title":{"rendered":"Published: Lisa Tenderini, Oltre i tab\u00f9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-794e3cfa wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Oltre i tab\u00f9<\/em>: <em>Contro-narrazioni sovversive del ciclo mestruale dagli anni Sessanta a oggi<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breaking taboos surrounding the menstrual cycle is a recurring theme in articles and contributions published over the past decade, indicative of the progressive cultural shift emerging in various fields (marketing, politics, publishing, etc.). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This volume offers a reading of Italian works, primarily novels, that address the various meanings of menstrual cycles and aims to address the still-deficient interest in the topic within literary studies. Drawing on a transdisciplinary approach centered on Foucauldian discourse analysis and starting from the deconstruction of the concept of taboo, it explores the counter-discursive significance of these texts in light of the sociocultural context they reflect. Through their explicit and complex treatment of menstruation, works such as Milena Milani&#8217;s La ragazza di nome Giulio (1964) and Carlo Lucarelli&#8217;s Almost Blue (1997) expose and challenge, even subverting, the monologic nature of the dominant discourse on the topic, which is both taboo and stigmatizing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By sketching out a new cultural history of women&#8217;s periods, limited to the contemporary era, the study lays the foundation for a potential new field of research: Period Studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"689\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/periodstudies.univie.ac.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/product_pages-689x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-155\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Oltre i tab\u00f9, published by Lisa Tenderini.
